Armed violence as a serious public health problem

In the present essay, the multifactorial approach to violence is shared. Nonetheless, the autor focused on the armed violence that has been lived and continues to be lived in El Salvador. It should be noted that the mention of the firearms factor is due to the fact that they are the instrument that serves to increase violence and bring it to the level of armed violence. To this end, data on armed violence was analyzed, which in most cases culminates in lethal violence caused by firearms and, as a consequence, in an increase in the impact on public health, with emphasis on the years of potential life lost (ypll), according to the indicator that serves to show which are the diseases or violent events that produce death prematurely. Among the indicators of violence, such as health spending, life expectancy and mortality, the best illustrated by the situation is the homicide rate. This problem can not be deal with solely through the area of health, so the regulation of firearms in the country was also discussed.
