Vegetative behavior of coriander (Eryngium foetidum L.) using three substrates at the nursery level

Abstract

The Eryngium foetidum L species has traditionally been used for culinary and medicinal purposes, it has been cultivated in home gardens using the existing soil as substrate without any type of fertilization. In this study the main objective is to determine the behavior of the vegetative development of the coriander species (Eryngium foetidum L.) using different substrates at the nursery level, located at the Faculty of Natural Resources and the Environment of the National Agrarian University in Managua Nicaragua. A randomized block design was used with three treatments that consisted of three substrates: 1) topsoil (100%), 2) combination (topsoil + sand + bokashi) and 3) bokashi (100%). The variables evaluated were seizure, length of the floral stem, length and width of leaves, which were measured at 14, 28 and 60 days after the coriander stems were sown. The highest growth of stems obtained was presented in the soil substrate with 90%. It is shown that the highest values ​​both in length and width and number of leaves per plant were presented by the soil treatment. The moisture content was determined at the laboratory level, obtaining that the bokashi substrate presents the highest value with 75%. In relation to the green biomass of the aerial and root part of the plant, the best result is presented by the vegetal soil substrate with 36.7 g and in dry weight with 13.9 g. The longest root length was recorded with the combination substrate.
