Abstract

This report has the purpose of informing the internal medicine community of a case of secondary epilepsy due to treatable chronic focal encephalitis and discussing its possible variants in adults.
The patient was assessed clinically, with images of RMI and EEG video. A 12-year-old patient who, from 3 years of age, presented with a picture of parasomnia suggestive of sleepwalking followed by generalized secondary motor focal seizures left with left brachiocrural paresis, a progressive picture that started with a crisis per week to reach more than 1000 / month, refractory to medical treatment.
The RMI showed right temporo-frontal and insular atrophy, and the EEG video, multifocal epileptiform foci of the right hemisphere of centrofrontal predominance correlated with generalized secondary focal motor seizures of the left hemisphere.
The cerebrospinal fluid was normal, it is presented to a patient who meets three criteria of Rasmussen encephalitis, it is the first case reported in El Salvador
