From Post-Colonial to Dialogic Feminism. Implications for Building a Culture of Peace

Abstract

A positive culture of peace is related to practicing values of love, respect, tolerance, honesty and equality. Positive peace cannot be practiced when there is injustice, when basic conditions for personal development are lacking, when “other voices” consider themselves the owners of absolute knowledge. This documentary-descriptive research attempts to demonstrate the link between gender issues, viewed as a social construction, where culture, power relations and the efforts made on our continent to achieve a culture of peace converge. A critical interpretation of feminism is carried out from its historical development in the postcolonial era to its current concretization in so-called “dialogic feminism” and its relationship with discourse and peace. Dialogic feminism is a proposal that encourages dialogue, inclusion and understanding to strengthen the culture of peace; Nicaragua testifies to this process.
