Abstract

Food vulnerability was studied at the family and household level of the Chorotega indigenous peoples of north-central Nicaragua, with the objective of analyzing vulnerable groups at the individual and household level. The study had a quantitative-qualitative approach, cross-sectional and observational design. The sample was 406 families, nine interviews and three focus groups, the calculation was carried out with the application of the formula of finite populations according to Galindo in 1996, the information collection technique was the scale survey on experiences and behaviors related to individual and household reference unit feeding. The research is based on instruments previously validated by experts, with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.8823. For the analysis of the information, the statistical package SPSS version 25 was used with triangulation of the information. Groups vulnerable to family level, regarding serious food insecurity, 25% indicate that they are hungry and 55.8% indicate that there is a reduction in food. When analyzing vulnerable groups at the family level, with regard to serious food insecurity, 25% indicate that they are hungry and 55.8% indicate that there is a reduction in food; The chi-square test was used for the municipalities, it was found that, at the individual and family level for the indicators "due to lack of money, they do not have enough quality and variety of food and they go hungry" there is an association with respect to the territory of the families.
