Isotopic analysis of the text “Adamic atavism” by Nicaraguan poet Víctor Ruiz

Abstract

For the analysis of the poem Adamic Atavism we will help ourselves with the method of isotopies provided by François Rastier, who calls every iteration of a linguistic unit isotopy, and within these he explains the existence of semantic isotopies, that is, those redundancies of formal units of content. We will also refer to the theory of connotation, from which Pozuelo Yvankos returning to the main theorists (Ch. Bally and L. Hjelmslev) tells us that language is not a system of referential signs, but that speakers can also use connotations , this is when the relationship between signifier and referent is suspended, then the sign reflects extra information, attitudes and records of the speaker. Connotation is both one of the main features of poetry, since the signs of a poem refer to the reader beyond the simple association of meaning and significance. Finally we will try to discover the clues that the author has left us to unveil the tradition in which the poem is inscribed. In other words, we will culminate with the ideological level, while the text contains an aesthetic worldview.
