Crisis of the concept governance under the neoliberal model in Latin America

Abstract

Recently, the concept of governance has gained importance as a result of the increasing demands for participation by the citizens who disagree with certain political practices that are not in their interest, but that encourage the concentration of power, social exclusion and marginalization of large population groups. Those who have studied the concept of governance agree with the idea that it encourages participation and promotes the creation of more effective and efficient policies. Governance promotes higher levels of equality where a large number of political agents are able to participate. Meanwhile, the neoliberal model, which for decades has prevailed in Latin America, has been seen as a creator of exclusion and destroyer of democracy among other negative characteristics attributed to it. In this sense, it seems that neoliberal policies and governance go separate ways, or that neoliberalism understands the concept of governance differently, so it can use it to promote the benefits for specific interest groups or for the market transactions
