Impact of non-formal education in the development of competencies for higher education

Abstract

Non-formal education becomes a complementary alternative to formal education every day in order to strenghthen civil and civic values in the youth of different countries which local educational system is oftentimes unable to instill by itself. The goal of this research was to find the impact that competencies and aptitudes obtained through non-formal educational activities in youth organizations has in the incorporation to higher education and employability of Salvadorean youths. This was an ex post facto research type with a transversal design. The subjects of study included undergraduate students in the Scout Movement, studying at the different universities of El Salvador; the probabilistic sample included 384 individuals, distributed in the 14 departments of the country. Among the main results the following can be mentioned: there is a direct relation between the Scout Movement and the competencies focused on the work environment, as well as the acquisition of transversal competencies related to the gamut linked to higher education.
