The political resposal to COVID-19 in Central America: El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica

This manuscript aims to create an initial but coherent comparative investigation of the political response to COVID-19 adopted by three Central American countries (El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica), during the first months of the crisis in 2020. The findings illustrate the connection between implementation of measures, public and institutional order and decision-making process. Finally, the connection between the policy response and the political structures of each country, based on three principles of development established by Jeffrey Paige (1997), progress for El Salvador, Freedom for Nicaragua and Costa Rica democracy for democracy.
