In El Salvador, people’s disappearances are everyday news. This has resulted in invisibility of the problem’s severity, especially for the missing person’s families. This desensitization adds to the pain of an unsuccessful search, the lack of companion from the authorities, and even the lack of proper journalistic coverage, as there are judicial proceedings that need to be done to back up the disappearing of the family member. In addition, in most of the cases, the economic responsibilities that the missing person has left, are taken on by their families, who, without properly mourning their relative, need to take the hard decision to declare the death of the missing person and look up to the authorities to do the pertinent judicial proceedings. Is then when the presuming the death of a loved one is the only answer, facing a lack of documentation of death in a disappearing scenario.
