Abstract

Low birth weight is the most important cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Having a methodology and tools that are simple and accessible to everyone is important for fetal surveillance. An adjustment of the cylinder model was carried out for the estimation of birth weight in order to be used from pre-term to post-term pregnancies. Weight at birth was calculated using the cylinder model and the relative error was subsequently adjusted by multiple linear regression. A substantial difference was obtained between the original and adjusted relative error, 15.35 % (SD ± 11.56) vs. 6.97 % (SD ± 6.67) for the low birth weight cohort and 19.69 % (SD ± 11.32) vs. 9.33 % (SD ± 8.19) for the normal weight sample. Likewise, for the prediction of LBW, the following were obtained: Sensitivity 84 %, Specificity 97.5 %, VVP 98 %, NPV 81 %, RV + 33.6 and RV- 0.17.
