Abstract

A simple method based on the extraction technique (ring method) has been proposed to evaluate the mechanical and sensory properties (hand) fabrics. Also, theoretical models were developed to explain mathematically six-sensory mechanical properties defined and evaluated by the proposed method. The evaluation results of 16 different samples of fabrics showed high precision in the values obtained, and the one-way ANOVA analysis showed that the proposed method is able to significantly differentiate different fabrics content of fiber (natural, artificial, synthetic and mixtures) and types of structures (fabric weight and thickness, loom woven, knitted fabrics, and nonwoven fabrics made). In summary, we can say that the method proposed here can be measured objectively and quantitatively mechanical sensory properties of fabrics, and characterize them in terms of flexibility, extensibility, surface contour, compressibility, surface friction and resilience.
