About the Journal

The journal Teoría y Praxis is a publication of the Don Bosco University (UDB) of El Salvador. It is a vehicle for promoting and disseminating the publication of scientific articles, academic reflections and editorial or film novelties related to the fields of social sciences and humanities. The content of the journal privileges the critical and innovative scrutiny of the local and global social reality. The evaluation that the journal gives to the rigor of academic and scientific ways to address social problems of different kinds, its interest in multidisciplinary perspectives and its open format, make it a resource of high interest for decision-makers, academics, researchers and undergraduate and graduate students.

The journal responds, nominally, to the need and intellectual duty to pay attention to the dialectic that exists between reason and reality and its potential for promoting human well-being. This reflective effort, however, maintains a critical look at the risks of idealism or activism that, respectively and fragmentarily, theory and praxis entail. In philosophical terms, Teoría y Praxis aims to make its own the mission of the Salesian charism of the UDB as an institution of higher education, which is to commit itself to the community for the construction of a free, just and solidary society. The raison d'être of the magazine is summarized in the motto –a phrase attributed to the Roman poet Juvenal– that accompanies the institution's coat of arms: Vitam impendere vero, consecrate life to truth.

Teoría y Praxis is a semi-annual peer-reviewed journal. Unpublished articles are received throughout the year and are not being considered for publication in other journals. It does not charge the authors for the management and eventual publication of the articles. Its content is freely available online to readers and authors, and can be printed if required.

Ethical principles
Teoría y Praxis strictly adheres to the respect of basic ethical principles in the management of the work it receives, the exchange with its collaborators, the ideas it publishes and the publishing practices. Thus, it is essential for the journal to respect all people, to properly grounded ideas, to comply with the times and procedures established in the journal, as well as to quality control in the management of writings.

The journal considers basic rules of publication (https://publicationethics.org/), monitors bad practices (e.g., plagiarism) and, in particular, the proper treatment of persons (or animals) involved in the research submitted to the journal for consideration. In addition to the follow-up of general principles (https://www.wma.net/es/policies- post/declaration-of-helsinki-of-the-amm-ethical-principles-for-medical-research-in-human-beings/), authors who submit papers to the journal are expected to make explicit the procedures and ethical principles contemplated in their papers (e.g., use of informed consent, approval of the paper by an ethics committee), especially if vulnerable populations (e.g., children, institutionalized persons) have collaborated with them. The authors undertake to submit completely unpublished papers, which are not being and will not be submitted to another journal during the review process and which do not have conflicts of interest. The violation of any ethical principle in the publication may be an immediate cause for the rejection of a work submitted to the journal.
