Abstract

We call Masferrerian vitalism to the Alberto Masferrer’s system of thought, in whose foundation; life is affirmed as the most important thing that human beings have. What’s more, life for Masferrer in all its manifestations has an absolute character. Hence, life acquires a character of principle, is something principial in this vitalism system. Therefore, caring for, respecting and promoting life is key to the present and future development of humanity. According to Masferrer’s opinion, life is the origin of everything and in its manifestations of strength and health, life is the source from which all prerogatives and all real rights flow. When you have life, you are independent, you are free, and you are sovereign. You have encouragement to fight, to die defending freedom, independence and sovereignty, and everything else. Life is not an abstraction but the binding element between man and world.
